How Hotel Laundry and Disinfection Routines Affect the Service Life of Bathing Gloves

Release Date: 2026-10-16  Views: 2234

In hotel and spa operations, bathing gloves rarely fail because of a defect. They fail because of how they are washed. A glove that lasts a year in a home bathroom may lose its shape within weeks once it goes through a commercial laundry line.

Three factors cause most of the damage: heat, chemicals and mechanical action. Washing above 60℃ accelerates the ageing of elastic fibres and seams. Chlorine-based disinfectants break down surface coatings and make TPU stiffen, while strong alkalis leave the honeycomb structure brittle. High-speed extraction then twists the glove while it is still hot.

A practical routine is milder than most operators expect: wash at 40℃ or below with a neutral pH detergent, use oxygen-based rather than chlorine disinfection, and air-dry flat instead of tumble drying. TPU honeycomb releases water quickly and dries within hours, so high heat is rarely necessary.

Rotation matters as much as the wash itself. Issuing two or three gloves per room and alternating them gives each one a full drying cycle, which cuts odour complaints and extends service life.

Buyers who ship a short care sheet with each order usually see fewer replacement claims. For gloves suited to commercial laundering, see our bathing glove range, or contact jack@bathingglove.com to discuss materials and packaging.
